Genesis 25:30-31

30 He said to Jacob, "Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I'm famished!" (That is why he was also called Edom. [a] ) 31 Jacob replied, "First sell me your birthright."

This has probably got to qualify as the biggest "what was I thinking" moment in the history of mankind.

Jacob whips up a pot of lentil soup, and walks away with the family birthright.

And we all think, "duh…Esau, you knucklehead. Seriously, catch your breath, grab a granola bar, and give what Jacob is saying a little more consideration" instead of just "Me need soup."

But I know there were times (today???) when I said something/did something when I probably shouldn't have.

So I think maybe what this says to me today is "be careful when you make big decisions." As in when I'm tired, or frustrated, or hungry, or mad, or lonely, or disappointed, or frankly anytime when I am not on top of my game, I don't need to me making any decisions bigger than "you want fries (or lentil soup) with that?"
